X-Men: Days of Future Past
I have a soft spot for the X-Men films that don’t include the words “Last Stand” in them, so I was always going to enjoy this a bit.
But in fact, I enjoyed this a lot. Despite the crazy premise, it keeps the drama pretty focussed on a few key characters. And while it does arguably string out the main point of drama quite a bit, that drama is all about changing someone’s mind instead of controlling or killing them, and I’m a big fan of movies that hinge on decisions. Even if there were more dramatic music and emotional close-ups than might be strictly necessary.
Plus, the actors are pretty awesome, particularly the Lawrence/McAvoy/Fassbender trifecta. And at times, it is hilarious. Well, one time in particular.
Also, it gets bonus points for stuff I won’t talk about here.
